Infectious Illnesses
To help protect the health and safety of our patients, staff, and community, we ask patients experiencing infectious symptoms to contact the practice prior to attending their appointment.
This includes symptoms such as:

Rash

Flu-like or respiratory symptoms
Alternative arrangements may be made where appropriate at the discretion of the treating GP.
Patients may also be asked to wear a mask or follow additional infection control measures while attending the practice.
Missed Appointments (DNA Policy)
Our practice is committed to ensuring fair access to healthcare for all patients.
Appointment reminders are generally sent 24 hours prior to scheduled appointments. If you are unable to attend or are running late, we ask that you notify the practice as soon as possible so the appointment can be offered to another patient.
Repeated failure to attend appointments without notice may affect future booking arrangements.
Privacy & Confidentiality
Better Health South Tamworth is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of patient health information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles.
Your medical record is a confidential document. Information collected by the practice is used to support your healthcare and may be shared with other healthcare providers involved in your care where appropriate.
Our practice utilises services including HotDoc, SMS, phone, and email communication systems in line with privacy and confidentiality standards.
Patients may request access to their medical records in accordance with relevant legislation. A full copy of our Privacy Policy is available at reception or on request.
Interpreter Services and Support Persons
Our practice is committed to providing accessible healthcare for all patients.
We can arrange access to the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National) to assist patients who require language support.
We recognise the important role that carers, family members, and support persons may play in a patient’s healthcare journey. With patient consent, support persons may assist during consultations where appropriate.
Patients who require additional support during appointments may also request assistance from our nursing team.

Patient Behaviour and Exclusion Policy
Our practice is committed to maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
The practice reserves the right to discontinue care where patients engage in:
- Abusive or threatening behaviour
- Harassment or inappropriate communication
- Unsafe conduct
- Repeated non-compliance with reasonable treatment or practice policies
Where appropriate, the practice will attempt to communicate concerns and work collaboratively with patients prior to termination of care. However, immediate action may be taken where the safety of staff or other patients is at risk.
Transfer of Medical Records
Our practice values continuity of care.
Where appropriate, we may request medical records from your previous healthcare provider to support safe and effective treatment.
If you transfer to another practice, we will provide a copy of your medical records to your new healthcare provider in accordance with privacy legislation and professional guidelines. Our practice generally provides transfer of records free of charge.
