A full-time medical practice was established in the Tamworth Shopping Village in May 2016, providing patients with improved access and consistent, comprehensive and quality health care.


Better Health South Tamworth is an innovative practice and our mission is to strive for better things: to improve health and wellbeing by providing the best standard of patient care and treatment; with a commitment to a holistic diagnosis and management of illness, and with dignity and respect for the patient without discrimination.

COVID Policy

Please do not attend the practice if you are experiencing any COVID like symptoms, or have been advised to isolate due to COVID infection or exposure. We recommend you phone the practice so that we can make alternative arrangements, or to reschedule your appointment. It remains a condition of entry to our practice to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.

The voluntary Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL) accreditation ensures that the service you receive at Better Health South Tamworth meets high safety and quality standards for your protection. AGPAL reviews the practice every three years. The doctors are all vocationally registered and committed to continuing medical education.

Dr Alphonsus Amalakumar is a dedicated General Practitioner with a strong commitment to delivering comprehensive, patient centred health care. With experience across a broad spectrum of general practice, Dr Amalakumar emphasises building trusting relationships and providing personalised care tailored to the individual needs of patients at all stages of life. He is especially focused on preventive health, chronic disease management and holistic wellbeing. Dr Amalakumar consults at the practice on selected days, offering continuity of care alongside team to ensure accessible and high quality medical support for our community.
 
Our Nursing Team
 
At Better Health South Tamworth, our nursing team plays a vital role in supporting our patients and GPs across all aspects of primary care. They provide compassionate, patient-focused services including chronic disease management, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, women’s health, immunisations, wound care, clinical procedures, and general patient support. Our nurses work collaboratively with the GPs to ensure continuity of care, seamless coordination of treatment, and personalised support for every patient, helping our community stay healthy and well.
 
Visiting and Locum GPs
 
From time to time, we welcome experienced visiting GPs to complement our regular team and support appointment availability. Our visiting doctors are fully qualified and vocationally registered, providing safe, comprehensive care across a range of general practice services. Many patients appreciate the broader availability this brings, particularly for routine and non urgent health needs. We actively coordinate patient care across all clinicians so your medical records, treatment plans, and follow ups remain seamless, regardless of which doctor you see.
 


The practice is open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm.
